BIOGRAPHY
Elena Rapti was born in Thessaloniki where she grew up and currently resides.
She is a graduate of the Arsakeio High School of Thessaloniki.
She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hellenic Culture from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Open University of Cyprus.
She is a holder of a Postgraduate Degree (Master in Business Administration -MBA) in Business Administration from Winchester University.
She worked as an independent professional in the field of Audiovisual Communication Systems.
She was first elected as a City Council Member in the Municipality of Thessaloniki in 1998.
She is a founding member of the Social Organization “Agapi” and of the Volunteer Information Centre “Team with You”.
In 2002, she was re-elected as a City Council Member in the Municipality of Thessaloniki by a majority vote.
In 2004, she was first elected as Member of the Hellenic Parliament with the political party of New Democracy (ND) for the Thessaloniki A΄ Constituency.
She was re-elected Member of the Hellenic Parliament with New Democracy for the Thessaloniki A΄ Constituency in 2007, 2009, in both elections of May and June 2012, in January 2015 as well as in September 2015, in July 2019 and in both elections of May and June 2023.
In 2011, she was appointed Secretary of Volunteerism and NGO of New Democracy by decision of the President of New Democracy.
In 2012, she was appointed Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
In the Council of Europe, she was appointed Member of the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development, the Committee on Equality and Non-discrimination, Member of the Parliamentary Network on the Ending of Child Sexual Abuse and Coordinator of the campaign “ONE in FIVE” of the Council of Europe in Greece.
In 2015, she took over the Culture Sector of New Democracy.
In 2017, she was appointed member of the group of experts of the EPAS programme of the Council of Europe and the European Union under the title “PSS+ – Ending sexual harassment and abuse of children in sports.
In 2021, she was appointed Head of the National Action Plan for the Protection of Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation.
In 2022, by decision of the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, she was appointed National Coordinator for the Prevention and the Response to the Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Minors.
In June 2023, Elena Rapti was appointed Deputy Minister of Tourism.
